The body of a 60-year-old Gloucester-Junction man who was reported missing on October 2, 2013, after failing to return from kayaking has been found.

Northeast District RCMP in Bathurst were advised at 2:30 p.m. on October 13, 2013 that family members doing a search at the junction of the Nepisiguit River and Bay de Chaleur in Bathurst had discovered the body of the missing man on a sandbar.

RCMP with the help of the RCMP’s dive team and ground search and rescue volunteers had conducted extensive searches in the days after he had been reported missing in the areas where his kayak and life jacket had been found.

The investigation is continuing and an autopsy has been ordered.
