Hollywood Pantages (Hollywood, CA)
Based on Green Day’s Grammy-winning concept album of the same name, American Idiot is a high-energy, two-time Tony-winning rock opera featuring the songs from the album, with direction by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choreography by Steven Hoggett (Black Watch) and orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal). The story follows three lifelong friends — Johnny, Will and Tunny — as they are forced to choose between following their dreams or staying in the safety of the suburbs. Popular songs from American Idiot include “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the title track, which was nominated for four Grammys when it was released in 2005.
