The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, last night gave an interview to a local news channel called the BernamaTV which covered topics ranging from Umno to the Barisan Nasional Party and from ISA to his administration.

While covering international relations, Najib completely refused the allegations that Malaysia was being controlled by the two superpowers of the world. He said developing friendly relations with these countries does not mean that they can control the affairs of Malaysia. “Our principle is to have cordial relations with all countries based on what we think fit. We are not a lackey (of any major power), we have never been. We have our own independent stand,” he said.

Covering his administration, Najib informed that Malaysia’s trade had increased over the last year to about RM1.36 trillion because of better export performance. “Malaysia is a significant trading nation. Our total trade is 167 per cent of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP), placing us among the biggest trading nations of the world. Companies can export from Malaysia without being subject to tariffs or low tariffs. So, we have an added advantage for investors,” he said.
