The students from the diploma prohram were honored this Wednesday at an awards ceremony. Students from the School of The Arts (SOTA) now have a wider choice and more concentrated programs offered according to their careers. . The International Baccalaureate Career-related Certificate (IBCC) program is the first to be offered in a school in Singapore. The program is an addition to the more academically rigorous (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Program currently offered by the SOTA.

The Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong said that SOTA has to be a specialized school where arts takes “centre stage” and where a strong and dedicated focus in nurturing artistic talents is present. “In today’s environment, achieving success as an arts practitioner requires more dedicated and full-time training. IBCC will provide a more flexible learning environment and framework — it will still uphold high academic standards, where the curriculum will be more flexible and will be specially designed to nurture artist practitioners amongst students with exceptional artistic talent,” said Wong expressing the excellence of the program.

Wong further added that :”It will provide students with a good pre-conservatory foundation when they are in Year 5 and Year 6, and during this period they will undergo specialised training to hone their artistic skills and then prepare them for admission into arts institutes and conservatories, whether locally or abroad.”
