The officers in charge of the RCMP in New Brunswick have expressed feelings of immense gratitude and recognition to the community after receiving countless sentiments of appreciation and support since three of their officers were gunned down in Moncton on June 4.

According to a statement issued by the officer in charge of the Codiac Regional RCMP detachment, Supt. Marlene Snowman, “thousands of messages from around the world have flooded in. It’s been overwhelming and also so very comforting.” She alleged that she cannot express the deep thankfulness she and her coworkers have for the community that supported them after the tragic deaths of Const. Doug Larche, Const. Dave Ross and Const. Fabrice Gevaudan. According to Snowman “in times of grief and tragedy, it is our human spirit; our resilience; the connections that we have with our colleagues; our families and loved ones; and our community that help get us through tough times.”

On the other hand, the Commanding Officer of the RCMP in New Brunswick, Assistant Commissioner Roger Brown, reiterated similar comments as he said that “while it’s usually our job to look after the community, this time the community looked after us.” Brown added that “tragic events such as this opens up a door for the entire world to see who we really are; what it means to devote one’s self to a greater good — to put the welfare of others beyond your own.”
