On Day 4 of the opening test clash, Gary Ballance scored his first Test century with an unbeaten 104 as England sought to fight back and declared at 267 for 8 after taking a fair lead of 389 runs from Sri Lanka at Lord’s on Sunday.
On the final day, now the Sri Lankans have the huge task of passing the highest successful run chase score at Lord’s of 344, made by the West Indies in 1984. England’s declaration of 2nd innings looks highly likely, as they will look to collect all 10 wickets on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, the hosts were struggling at 121 for 6 when Matt Prior was caught by Kumar Sangakkara at gully off the bowling of Nuwan Kulasekara, but Ballance and Chris Jordan put on a valuable partnership of 78 for the seventh wicket which then turned the situation again in the English team’s favour.
