Qadri’s Assets Under Examination

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) this Thursday has started a probe against the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief, Dr.Tahir ul Qadri who has just arrived in Pakistan a few days back due to the attack on his supporters in Lahore, Model Town. On his arrival, the government refused to allow permission to his flight landing in Islamabad and redirected it to Lahore.

The FIA has written a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) summoning asset details of Mr. Qadri and his political party. The FIA has also sought asset details of Tahir ul Qadri which he submitted to the ECP during his tenure as a parliamentarian in 2002.The FIA expects the support of the Election Commission in this inquiry against Dr. Tahirul Qadri.

Mr. Qadri had been elected in the National Assembly in 2002 but vacated his seat. According to ECP officials, the asset details of Tahir ul Qadri and PAT will be provided to the FIA. Asset details are not classified and any Pakistani can request the ECP to provide them. The chief of PAT claims that he has been clear about his assets from the beginning and has informed the media that he has come to stay in Pakistan now, leaving nothing behind in Canada. ‘I have not even left a sock in Canada,’ were the claims of the PAT chief when he returned to Pakistan on the 23rd of June.
