Laemmle’s NoHo 7 (North Hollywood, CA)
Valley-based filmmakers get their chance to shine at the 14th Annual Valley Film Festival. The fest allows you to discover 45 of today’s most provocative films made by Angelenos and Vals, or shot in and around the San Fernando Valley. Opening night features the return of director John Putch (Cougar Town, Scrubs) with the only Los Angeles festival screening of Route 30 Three!, the final chapter of his comedic trilogy. Other highlights include the centerpiece screening of director Matt Mercer’s dramedy, You or a Loved One, which follows a reclusive illustrator as he navigates withdrawal effects from a pharmaceutical drug trial. Also slated is a femme-centric showcase, a block of fantasy film shorts and a documentary showcase, featuring The Green Girl, an in-depth look at Star Trek icon and prolific actress, Susan Oliver. During the five-day event, you can sit in on educational panels, rub elbows at social mixers, seize opportunities for your own budding filmmaking career and cast your vote for the Audience Awards.
