Smothers Theatre at Pepperdine University (Malibu, CA)
In the “kindie” rock scene (indie rock for kids), nobody’s hotter than The Okee Dokee Brothers. A 2013 Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album is just the latest accolade in a career that began with their 2008 debut Kids With Beards. From the start, the Brothers’ blend of bluegrass and rock ‘n’ roll rhythms has enchanted music fans of all ages. Equally appealing — especially for parents — is the duo’s go-outside-and-have-fun message, urging kids to unplug and explore the natural world. For their concert at the Smothers Theatre in Malibu, the Brothers, also known as Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing, will perform selections from their Grammy-winning album Can You Canoe?, which was inspired by (and composed during) a month-long trip down the Mississippi.
