Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office is apologizing for hustling journalists out of an event just as Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff was about to speak.
The two leaders were attending an event Friday evening hosted by the Indian high commission to launch "The Year of India in Canada."
Harper spoke briefly, after which reporters, photographers and TV camera crews were asked — by staff from the Prime Minister’s Office — to leave.
Remember when the PMO invited reporters over to 24 Sussex for Christmas, at the EXACT SAME time the Liberals were holding their gathering? Remember when Ignatieff was on his summer tour and Harper and his Ministers seemed to be shadowing him? Remember the Winnipeg by-election coincidental overlap? If one is so inclined, there are countless more examples where this PMO has shown an almost obsessive desire to try and undercut Ignatieff at every turn. This sober reality makes "misunderstanding" actually "nonsensical", more correctly, the apology simply damage control. With the known pattern in mind, this comment makes perfect sense:
A press release issued earlier in the day by Ignatieff’s office had said only that the Liberal leader would be attending the Indian event; it did not say he’d be addressing the gathering. Liberal insiders maintained the release was ambiguous about Ignatieff’s participation because they were concerned the PMO would block the Liberal leader from speaking.
It was supposed to be a cultural "celebration", a non-partisan event, which in the grand scheme had ZERO impact on electoral prospects. Despite the benign nature of the event, the "Harper government" managed to mangle and warp, turn it into a schoolyard tug of war. It really is shameful when you realize we have such a low rent mentality operating, further evidence that politics in this country have found a new bottom, the "Harper government bottom". Class is the casualty, and any self respecting Conservative should agree….

It’s sad and pathetic when Harper and the cons pull stunts like this. Sadly they have learned much from the past governments of Chretien and sort, who pulled the same thing on Jean Charest all the time during the 1995 referendum. Proving once again how much of a Liberal clone Harper truly is.
Probably thought he was some Harvard janitor who bumbled into the place by mistake.

Canadians can learn a lot from the most populous democracy in the world. The Year of India can also help Prime Minister Stephen Harper learn how a democracy works. First, hustling journalists out of an event just as Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff was about to speak, is not democratic. Harper constitutional monarchy Government act as an instinctively anti-democratic group. The contributions of the Indian Diaspora to Canadian society could be to show it how a democracy works.
Any comment_content_IDea why a partisan liberal blogger writing an article omits his bias in reviewing the event?
As a partisan Conservative blogger, readers should be informed of the political bias of the writer.
Perhaps it was an oversight?
Harper is so rabcomment_ID to win, there has even been cheating of funds involved. Harper, is a dictator, and like all dictators, he uses every dirty tactic in the book, to win. He is setting Canada up for Global governance. Harper accuses Ignatieff, of not being Canadian, while he himself is busy, selling Canada out to huge corporations. Harper just gave big business, ANOTHER tax reduction, which comes off our paychecks. Layton let Canadians down, by capitulating to Harper’s demand. My vote will go to Ignatieff. At the present time, he is the only one, fighting Harper’s dictatorship regime. He also has the dignity, not to sink to Harper’s disgraceful level, of dirty mudslinging ads on TV. That turned me right against Harper, who, tries to pass himself off, as a christian. So far, Ignatieff is more Canadian than Harper. I do not like Harper’s evil agenda. I would rather keep Canada sovereign, and throw Harper, right off the planet.
