The Supreme Court of Pakistan has adjourned the case hearing until the 7th March and has called upon the Cabinet Secretary Nargis Sethi to attend the hearing on the next date.

Supreme Court summoned Ms. Sethi as a witness in the contempt of the court case filed against the Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani. During the case proceedings on Tuesday, Aitzaz Ahsen informed the court that the biggest defense in support of the PM is that he never intended for the contempt of court. He further explained that the PM acted as per instructions from other officials regarding writing the letter to the Swiss authorities for reopening of cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Aitzaz Ahsen requested before the panel of judges saying, “The Prime Minister should be granted a chance to provide a complete defense (of his actions).”

The bench accepted the request put forward by the lawyer of PM and summoned Ms. Sethi to the court in the next hearing.

Mr. Ahsen had submitted an application to the Supreme Court yesterday saying that he could provide evidence that his client did not act on his down but did so after consent of various senior officials of the government who did not want cases against the President to reopen.

As per his application request, Ms. Sethi has been summoned but the SC refused to call upon ex-law minister Baber Awan and Law Secretary Masood Chishti.
