The DAP has once again accused the ruling political party Umno of playing dirty politics and abusing its power in the central. DAP’s parliamentary whip Mr Anthony Loke lashed out at Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin for allegedly influencing the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

Loke claims that Khairy manipulated the facts regarding the DAP’s decision to re-elect the central executive committee (CEC). He says Khairy is willing to go to any extent to win over Umno members ahead of their own party elections. He said if the DAP had denied to comply with RoS’s demands, the party was at the steak of losing its registration.

“This is a political trap laid by Umno because their main objective is to destroy DAP and make it disappear from Malaysia’s political arena. Based on this political consideration, DAP decided to accede to RoS’s order,” Loke explained.

Khairy has accused the DAP of intentionally dragging the issue surrounding alleged irregularities in the party’s polls in an attempt to gain public sympathy. He said the re-election within DAP proves that the political party has been wrong all along.

Reacting to Khairy’s remarks, Loke said, “The fact is, we voluntarily admitted to a technical glitch in the CEC election results in January 2013. The issue of having ‘taken too long’ was not because of DAP but because the RoS took over seven months to investigate and we only received an official letter from the RoS on the order to hold fresh elections without any reason on July 31, 2013.

“This clearly shows that Khairy, just like other Umno leaders, is still playing traditional Umno politics that uses slander, lies, baseless accusations and abuse of power in the government to achieve their narrow personal political goals without any consideration for truth and justice.

“For them, truth is not important so long as they fulfill their personal needs, as the saying goes, ‘the end justifies the means’.”
