Pictou County District RCMP have received complaints from residents reporting that they have received suspicious letters postmarked from Great Britain.

The letters, addressed from an employee with the Nanto Bank in Japan, ask people to keep the contents confidential and respect the integrity of the information. The apparent reason for the letter is the Bank is attempting to settle an estate of a deceased client, with a similar last name as the recipient, that had an investment of twenty million U.S. dollars in their bank. Future communications are requested to be via fax or email only. Even though there is no request for money from the originator at this time, these letters are deemed to be the first steps in a fraud scam.

The RCMP want to remind people that personal banking information and social insurance numbers should be kept confidential at all times.
