Montreal police chief, Marc Parent, has finally commented on the recent astonishing arrest of one of his top investigators, alleging that the arrest has hit the police force “more than a ton of bricks.” It is the first time that any police representative commented on the situation since the arrest on Saturday.

50-year-old Benoît Roberge retired investigator is allegedly accused of selling information to a biker gang named Hells Angels. Mr. Roberge has a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday. Parent revealed that he has discussed the issue with several people who worked closest with Roberge, but none reported seeing anything that could have indicated to what happened. Parent stated that his police force was “disgusted” to learn of the accusations.

Parent pointed out that the police force has already installed a new system for handling informants in 2010, along with numerous changes as to how investigators access police intelligence following the revelation that a member of the Montreal police, Ian Davidson, had shopped around a list of every informant the Montreal police had. But, Parent stated that “but you can never eliminate the human factor.” Parent and an assistant-chief, Didier Deremond, both highlighted a noticeable stain in Roberge’s career, which showed that he was pulled off of biker gang investigations almost a decade ago, though it is being repeatedly alleged that the problem had to do with managing Roberge and had nothing to do with his integrity.
