On Wednesday, March 23, police were called to Evergreen House on Newcastle Street in regards to a theft of two paintings. Today, investigators are releasing pictures of the paintings in hopes that they will be located or returned safely.
The first painting is an unsigned work that depicts ships between the islands on the western side of Mahone Bay, NS. The date of this work is unknown but it is thought to have been painted in the late 1800s and is approximately 9” long and 5.5” wide.
The second is by J.E. Elliott and depicts ships in Halifax Harbour, perhaps from a Point Pleasant Park vantage point, with a woman in a white dress on the shore. It was painted in 1887 and is approximately 18” long and 11.5” wide.
