asiancarpThe Asian Carp is under scrutiny of the officials of Illinois. They are planning to counter two of the problems faced by the presence of the Asian Carp that are: controlling the plankton-gobbling carp from entering the Great Lakes and record numbers of people facing hunger. Yes! you heard it right. Illinois Department of Natural Resources to use Bighead Asian Carp to feed the hungry. Asian Carp is now going to be a highlight of the chef special in different restaurants and soon make its way in to your dinner table.

The Asian Carp is a famous dish in China and Japan. However, in America people have not yet been keen to try this fish. In terms of nutritional value, the Asian Carp is much more wholesome. “Many people think the Asian Carp is the same as the common Carp,” said Illinois DNR Director Mark Miller. “This fish feeds on algae and plankton. It is healthier for you and tastes better.”

Louisiana chef Philippe Parola, who’s become a national advocate for the fish he calls silverfin will be working on developing the flavor of the fish for the local audience so that the “yuck” factor can be eliminated.  However, he has pointed out that the process of deboning the fish is not going to be a piece of cake.

Asian Carp has long been a big issue for states bordering the Mississippi River. Now the invasive fish is threatening the Great Lakes, creating controversy among state governments.
