Today a Road Transport Officer (RTO) allegedly killed a truck driver. In Naubatpur locality in Sayyadraza area, the driver refused to pay bribe during a vehicle checking drive.
The driver, Anant Lal Gupta was a native of Kaushambi district. He was 50 year of age and was beaten to death at 5 am. Some members of the RTO staff beat him. The Superintendent of Police Shalabh Mathur told the media.
Ashwini (23) was the driver’s son who was also there with his father. He told that "One of the constables of the RTO Department took the vehicle for weighing at the weighing centre and found that the truck was not overloaded, but demanded Rs 1,000."
Ashwini said that his father was willing to pay them Rs 500 but the constables were asking for Rs 1,000. This made the RTO constables and one Shiv Kumar of the weighing centre angry and they beat him brutally causing his death.
Shortly after the incident the local people jammed the National Highway-2. The protesters turned violent and threw stones at the police, Mathur said.
An FIR of the case has been registered as regards the incident, Mathur added.
