The government of Singapore launched a rigorous campaign via the National Plan of Action (NPA) opposing human trafficking and investing more resources towards the identification and protection of the victims on Wednesday.
The plan proposed by the government first of all condemns such activities and aims at doing their best to put an end to such cases. On another note, it is stressing on individuals who have already fallen prey to the heinous activity and need help. The proposed plan aims at penning down detailed regulations in a simple manner that classify a victim and lays greater stress on identifying and thereby protecting the individuals involved in human trafficking.
According to the plan, about 1,000 individuals will be specially trained to handle and deal with these victims. The long and standard procedures to file such cases will be cut down to short and concise steps. It will also be ensured that the officers who conduct initial investigations must be polite and comforting in their investigations and make sure that they do not mean any sort of offence to the victim.
Special teams will be dispatched to work in specified regions to ensure a reduction in the rate of prostitution and other crimes that come to surface as a result of human trafficking. Authorities have also proposed that victims of human trafficking should be given immunity from any other crime they might have committed on a smaller scale such as prostitution or overstaying in the country.
