Toronto FC Acquires Hassli in Trade with Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Toronto FC announced Friday that the club has acquired forward Eric Hassli from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for Toronto’s first round pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft along with an international roster spot through December 31, 2013. Hassli will be considered a Designated Player and occupy an International Roster spot.

“Adding a player of Eric’s ability gives an immediate improvement to our club,” said Toronto FC Head Coach and Director of Soccer Operations Paul Mariner. “He has had a lot of success in this league and we are pleased to bring him to Toronto.”

Hassli, 31, joined Vancouver from Swiss Super League club, FC Zurich for the start of the 2011 season. In 44 league appearances for Vancouver, Hassli scored 12 goals and added five assists. The French native also scored three goals in eight Canadian Championship matches for Vancouver. Hassli joined FC Zurich in 2007 and went on to score 35 goals in just over 100 competitive matches for the Swiss club.
