Suicide bombers target lawyers in Peshawar

A suicide bomb in Peshawar killed over four people and injured 30 others on Monday. Most of the victims were identified as lawyers. The tragic incident took place at 12.30 pm when two suicide bombers mutely entered the Judicial Complex and started hurling hand grenades on the police.

One of the bombers managed to enter the office of Additional Sessions Judge Kulsoom Azam where he blew himself up; however, Ms Azam fortunately remains unharmed. Police maintains that the blast carried at least eight kg explosives. The other suicide bomber died during a standoff with the security forces. Severe damage was done to the inner portion of the Judicial Complex.

“This was an attempt by certain elements who wanted to get the general elections postponed but the lawyers will not allow that,” the vice-chairman of KP Bar said.

Promptly after the incident, Edhi ambulances and Rescue 1122 extended their services and transported the victims to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. Until now, the police has identified the bodies of Syed Jalal clerk of the Bar council, Ashfaq Ahmad and Abdul Majeed.

The list of injured people includes Yousaf Shah (34) resident of Nowshera, Mian Aziz Ahmad (35) resident of Hayatabad, Abdul Saboor (31) resident of Mashogagar, Advocate Ashfaq Ahmad (35) resident of Warsak road, Nasir Khan advocate (37) resident of Peshtakhara, Sana Advocate (25) resident of Swabi, Shah Faisal Advocate resident of Charsadda, Amanullah Khan resident of Kanreyza, Anwar Khan resident of Choli Payan, Azizullah resident of Attock, Jamil Raza Kocha Risaldar, Muhammad Abbas,  Nasir Khan, Niaz Ali, Nisar, Rabnawaz, Sohail Shehzad, Nizam ud Din Shah, Tahir Gul, Yousaf Shah, Perveez Khan, Abid, Kashif, Tahir Khan, Hamad Anjum, Syed Jalal, Abdul Majid, Ishfaq Ahmad, Jehangir Khan and an unknown person.
