Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPP-P) has been facing ruffles within the party ever since the leadership took a dramatic shift after the sudden and tragic death of Benazir Bhutto. Despite governing the country for five years, the party has not been able to keep Benazir’s son Bilawal Bhutto on board.
PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto abruptly flew out of the country days before the 10th general elections. The son supposedly got into a clash with his father, former president Asif Ali Zardari, over crucial party decisions. Allegedly, Bilawal’s take on key issues including terrorism, sectarian violence and party tickets was overlooked by Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur.
“When Zardari told him that he would be handed over the command of the party after he is groomed politically, Bilawal got upset and left,” a source said.
Indian media reports have quoted Bilawal as saying: “If I had to vote, even I wouldn’t vote for the PPP.”
Enraged Bilawal left Karachi for Dubai on his way to the UK after being upset over the way Zardari took sides with Talpur. The party would officially launch its election campaign on April 4 without Bilawal. The stage has been set at Garhi Khuda Bukh ancestral graveyard of Benazir Bhutto and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. On the other hand, former information minister Qamruzzaman Kaira and ex-governor Punjab Latif Khosa justify Bilawal’s exit as a security measure.
Sources claim that Bilawal has also shown concern over the PPP’s handling of the youth matters, especially considering the efforts by other parties like Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to woo the youth ahead of the elections.
this is whole drama, ppp trying to get back in power by showing that if bilawal gets in power, he will do everything correct unlike his father. where was he for last 5 years, oh yeah defending his dad’s policies and praising ppp government!
