Police has probed around twelve people in connection with the murder of local BSP leader Deepak Bhardwaj. The police department is specifically investigating the possible involvement of contract killers from Haryana’s Sonepat area.

Police officials are also questioning Bhardwaj’s family to determine whether there was a property dispute and if he had any enemies. CCTV footage of the attackers at the Nitesh Kunj farmhouse has also been released. Certain clues have led the investigators to suspect that the attackers belong to Sonepat. Apparently, the Skoda car used by attacker to reach Bhardwaj’s South Delhi farmhouse had a fake registration plate.

Bhardwaj was the wealthiest candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections with declared assets of over Rs 600 crore. From working as a document writer, stenographer, automobile parts supplier and then real estate speculator, he rose to become one of the most influential real estate tycoons in the National Capital Region. Along the way, he was also dragged into a few property disputes.

He was shot dead by three men who fled after the incident. Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said the attackers entered Bhardwaj farmhouse in Rajokri at 8:55 AM on the pretext of booking the place for a wedding. They had come in a dark grey Skoda car.

Bhardwaj received bullets on his chest and back. He succumbed to injuries after reaching Army’s Research and Referral Hospital near Dhaula Kuan in south Delhi. The CCTV footage shows the attackers pointing weapons at guards near the entry gate. Two of them opened the gates and then flee in their car.
