Highways Performance Space and Gallery (Santa Monica, CA)
New Shoes 2 is the second installment in an ongoing series of fresh works by up-and-coming and established Southern California-based choreographers. Come out to Highways Performance Space, and see five new pieces by Roya Carreras, Carmela Hermann and Ally Voye, Mechanism Dance Theater, Jordan Saenz and Lara Wilson. Hermann and Voye present an excerpt from orange tuesday and other dances about food, which is inspired by the complexities of food obsession and body consciousness. Mechanism Dance Theater’s The Panoptic Tendency explores the relationship between surveillance and self-regulation. Lara Wilson’s testimonials on behalf of a prelude is a multimedia investigation into memory, clutter, excavation, self-description and identification. There’s never a dull moment when the innovative choreographers of New Shoes present their latest creations live onstage.
