Salman Bashir, Pakistan’s High Commissioner in India will visit the assaulted prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay at a New Delhi hospital of Monday. Sanaullah was attacked by his fellow inmates in Jammu after an Indian prisoner died at the hands of other inmates in Pakistan.
“The Pakistani High Commissioner, Salman Bashir is visiting the hospital where Ranjay is being treated. He wanted to get a medical update,” the press officer at the Pakistan High Commission, Manzoor Ali Memon stated.
Memon added that the embassy is also trying to bring Sanaullah to Pakistan where he can receive treatment from local doctors. Also, the patient’s family will soon be visiting him in India. According to doctors, Sanaullah is been kept in intensive care unit and is still in crucial state. Ranjay belongs to the city of Sialkot in Pakistan. He was attacked by a former Indian army soldier almost 24 hours after Singh’s death in Lahore.
“The wounded prisoner remains in critical condition. He is brain dead but vitals are functioning with the help of medication,” the Foreign Office spokesperson Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry told the media.
Chaudhry said doctors have informed the officials from Pakistan High Commission that there are slim chances of his survival.
“Our High Commissioner will visit Chandigarh once the Indian authorities give him formal permission,” he added.
International organizations have been alarmed by the worsening situation in both countries. Amnesty International has issued a formal statement demanding both India and Pakistan to take immediate steps to ensure security of prisoners.
“Both Indian and Pakistani authorities must take prompt and concrete steps to ensure that prisoners do not face any further attacks,” said director of Amnesty International India, Shashikumar Velath.
