Does the girl in your life want to make a difference? Is she passionate about changing the world? That’s what Girls Learning Code’s August Summer Camp is all about! Join us as we get those imaginations buzzing in our first ever Inventors Week! Innovative inventions power the new technology that we enjoy every day. Some of the world’s most exciting inventions have also been designed by kids! Our Inventor’s week is all about exploring great ideas through imagination and creation. In groups, the girls will work throughout the week on creating a website (using HTML and CSS and Mozilla Thimble) to showcase their new inventions. In addition, each day, the girls will be introduced to a different type of innovative technology. They will be challenged to use it to invent something new! They will get an opportunity to play with and explore that medium, creating an addition to website. We’ll be looking at inventions through the lense of electricity. We’ll be cracking things open, takings things apart, and seeing how they work and talking about why. The girl in your life will get a first hand experience on how motors and sensors work, how to design using brand new materials (i.e. conductive tape and LEDs) and how we can use the computer as a tool for self expression. We’ll look at using code to power microchips through Arduino and digital invention design using Gimp. Along with making things from scratch, we’ll also get the girls into the hacking spirit by showing them how to make some cool adjustments to existing toys to create brand new inventions! In this safe, hands-on, full day camp, Girls Learning Code will guide the girls into an understanding of all the ways in which everyday electronics work and how we can use them to our advantage. Included in this awesome experience is a field trip where we’ll get an introduction into the professional world of imaginative inventing! Does the girl in your life have a natural curiosity about tech? Does she love to work with her hands? Then she isn’t going to want to miss this!
