FULL CREDITS Charlton James – Writer/Performer John LeMay IV & Bryan Hall – Writers Tyler Martin – Producer/Cinematographer Clay Thomas – Cinematographer John Gifford III – FAME Audio Engineer Trey Alexander – Videographer Jason Flynn – Producer/Director/Cinematographer/Videographer/Editor BACKSTORY James first wrote this song during the George W. Bush administration. With the song as inspiration, a self-refurbished Arriflex 16 BL camera, and some old short ends of celluloid, Flynn, Martin, and Thomas spent about a week in local towns to acquire footage of anything that felt demonstrative of the song’s theme. In the process, explanations of what they were working on often turned into enlightening discussions with people from their community. Though not directly present in the video, it was a rewarding experience for the makers. By the time the film was processed and an edit was started, Barack Obama had taken office. After long consideration, the song and resulting video took on a broader meaning. A few words were changed and the song was rerecorded, which was captured to accompany the previous footage.
