The Troika leaders made the statement in Juba during a press conference at the American Embassy. They called on all the parties involved in the conflict to protect civilians and ensure humanitarian activities are not tampered with.
“All parties have a responsibility to protect citizens and provide humanitarian work,” says the Charge de Affair of the United Kingdom (UK) Jon Dean.
They also urged the parties involved in the conflict to work for a lasting solution and called on the government to ensure grievances of the minority groups are considered.
The Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan Hanne-Marie Karrstad urged the government to make their stand clear that all citizens of the country are equal.
“We do encourage the government to make sure that they make sure that they make clear to all citizens that they are all valued as equal,” Ambassador Karrstad said.
She told journalist that situation in Jonglei is that people are struggling and that there is fear for the future.
Equitable allocation of resources is also cited as one of the solutions to the problem in Jonglei as the dignitaries reiterated the need for dialogue for communities to air out their grievances.
From their trip to the state, the foreign dignitaries said they heard stories that some communities are being targeted especially the Murle. They however said that the issue in Jonglei is not about cattle raiding but a complex one.
Troika members cited the importance of the Jonglei peace conference resolutions and the need for dialogue if peace is to be realized in the state.
They have also called on rebel leader David Yau Yau to accept the amnesty granted by the president and to give room for peaceful solution to the problem.
The Norwegian ambassador also stressed the importance of free, fair and transparent elections come 2015 and respect of the rule of law.
