After increased pressure from the Opposition, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called on the parliamentarians from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on Wednesday to discuss looming security issues.
The premier is expected to discuss way forward with regard to several issues including national security, development and administration. During the interactive session, both sides will be allowed to present their take on the grave issues cramping the economy of Pakistan. Sources confirm that PM Nawaz is eager to evolve broad-based consensus on the new national security policy.
“The prime minister will hold an important meeting with members of the National Assembly and Senate elected from Fata at the PM office on July 10, where issues of grave importance relating to the tribal belt will be discussed,” reads a statement issued from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The PM Office confirmed that Prime Minister’s Political Secretary Dr Asif Kirmani has engaged the elected members of Fata and invited them for the meeting. Representation of security agencies at the meeting is also under consideration.
PM Nawaz recently returned from his official visit to China where he termed energy crisis and security as the two major challenges faced by his government. He seems determined to keep all parties on board while introducing crucial policies which can later be used to criticize his government.
