Children from refugee backgrounds face many challenges. Leaving home, families and friends, sometimes separated from a parent for years, struggling with their identity in a new country. All this can be very isolating, says Tamam McCallum, Executive Director of Turtle House. Their hope, courage and perseverance in spite of this should be an inspiration to all of us. Our program increases their hope and self-confidence as they play, make art and connect with others. We are inspired by their journey. Turtle House Art/Play Centre is an innovative art-based organization in Toronto for children and parents coming from regions of conflict. Turtle House program incorporates art and recreation for children 4-12 years of age, as well as a conversation circle for their parents to connect with each other and to gain necessary information to assist them to settle in their new home. # # # # For more information or to set up an interview, please call: Tamam McCallum 416.534.7277, Ext. 231 Email: turtlehouse@sympatico.ca Or visit the Turtle House website at: www.turtlehouseartplaycentre.org
