How Do We Play in the City? The Playful City, a documentary produced and directed by Ramya Jegatheesan, will be screening at the Regent Park Film Festival on Saturday, November 16, at 4:30 pm. This 30-minute film explores the intersections of art and activism, and asks how we can transform our streets into a public stage. How do we actively and creatively engage our neighbourhoods? How do we use public space to play? To communicate? To engage our neighbourhoods and create a sense of community? The Playful City follows a number of artists and projects over the summer and fall of 2012, including The Marxist Nudist Taxidermy Club, The Complete Street Band, The Before I Die Wall, and The Street Pianos project. The film premiered at the 2013 Commest Global Community Film Festival in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood, where it won an Honourable Mention Award. Admission to the Daniel Spectrum Theatre is free. Free childcare is also available in the building. Before the screening, Joel Babcock, an artist featured in the film, will be performing in the Artscape Lounge.
