Authorities have confirmed the news of a massive bust by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams that resulted in seizure of an AK-47 assault rifle, a record haul of the pain-reliever Phenacetin, and other drugs that overall are prized about $1 million. Along with the drugs and weapons, three suspects were arrested and now facing a total of 64 drug and weapons charges in connection with the case.

According to the police, the charges are a culmination of a six-month-long investigation into several suspects from Vancouver’s lower mainland who intended to take part in the Calgary drug market. Four search warrants were executed that lead to seizure 4.6 kg of cocaine, 115 kg of the pain-relieving drug Phenacetin, 6.5 kg of marijuana, 1.6 kg of methamphetamine, 387 grams of MDMA or ecstasy, and 187 oxycodone pills. Police investigators estimate the total street value of the drugs to be at $969,940.

In addition to the drugs, police also seized a fully automatic AK-47 assault rifle with ammunition, a loaded handgun with additional ammunition, a spring-loaded pen gun, and $225,355 in cash, a hydraulic kilogram brick press with plates, money counters, drug scales, scoresheets, and a 2007 GMC Acadia SUV with a hidden compartment. 26-year-old Huy Nguyen, 24-year-old Duy Dao and 23-year-old Jonathon Chieh are now facing a combined total of 64 drug and weapons related offences. Additional charges are expected to be laid against the suspects as the investigation continues after the bust.
