PAS this Saturday denied all rumors of issuing an official letter stating that it has left the Pakatan Rakyat. Pakatan Rakyat’s vice president Salahuddin Ayub informed that the anonymous letter, which used PAS letterhead and was allegedly signed by the secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali, was a trick used by other parties to cause misunderstandings between PR and its component parties.

“I want to stress that PAS, up till today, is still with Pakatan Rakyat. This stand has not changed. I consider what is happening now, the spread of the letter in the cyber world, is an irresponsible act attempted to divide Pakatan Rakyat,” said Salahuddin. He further added that politics of today was filled with these political games and that such a tactic would not weaken the party.

The anonymous letter was sent on the 1st of August stated that an Emergency Meeting of the PAS Central Working Committee had decided that the party would withdraw from PR, over the reason that the DAP did not respect the other coalition parties. The letter called for all party members to respect the decision and stressed that the PAS will not work with Barisan Nasional in championing the Islamic nation agenda and hudud implementation. “I think that it is important for those who wants to see the break, they will try to portray PAS as the cause of the split…I understand that game well,” said the vice president.
