From Dan Akroyd to Stephen Colbert to Tina Fey, Chicago-founded improv comedy enterprise The Second City has been a training ground for some of the funniest minds in entertainment. Notable alumni (including dozens of Saturday Night Live cast members) cut their teeth performing at Second City’s famous revues, during which semi-improvised and scripted scenes are acted out alongside new material developed on the spot based on audience suggestions. To celebrate its 55th year of political and social satire, the troupe once called “The First Family of Comedy” is sending its touring company full of new blood on the road with a historic show featuring classic sketches made famous by names such as Jim Belishi, Gilda Radner and Steve Carell, along with contemporary comedy and made-up-on-the-spot goodness.
