Toronto District School Board has recently mentioned in an official statement that the salary of Director of Education, Donna Quan, is $289,000 a year and not the alleged $315,000. According to the statement, the figure revealed earlier in a confidential email addressed by the outgoing chair before she left office was false. The email was sent by Mari Rutka, hours before her term ended on Nov. 30, which allegedly explains trustees her version of events in trying to obtain a copy of Quan’s contract over several months.
In her remarks, Rutka revealed that she heard from a lawyer acting “on behalf of the board on Director Quan’s contract,” who eventual sent her a copy on Nov. 27. She mentioned that “this current board of trustees, as well as the next board of trustees should know that the contract states that the director be paid an ‘annual salary of three hundred and fifteen thousand ($315,000.00) dollars per annum, subject to approval by the Ministry of Education.’”
However, a board spokesperson has confirmed that although there was in fact a contract with that amount but it was never approved by the ministry and hence Quan did not received salary more than $289,000. Quite noticeably, Quan’s $289,000 salary is $17,000 higher than her predecessor Chris Spence, but equal to his predecessor Gerry Connelly. The Director’s salary is of particular importance since it was negotiated during a broader public sector salary freeze, and is one of the issues a provincial adviser appointed to look into affairs at the board is reviewing.
These kind of salaries and/or bonuses are rcomment_IDiculous ! People with children are flooding the food banks and this one administrator pulls in a stupcomment_ID salary like this !!!! Ironically, the entire comment_content_IDiot school board should be fired and forced to go back to school on how to survive in the world, for making a stupcomment_ID decision !!!! Stupcomment_ID, stupcomment_ID, stupcomment_ID !
CEO’s of much smaller organizations make a whole lot more!.. Wow, these directors are under pacomment_ID. Obviously it’s a calling to serve the kcomment_IDs. Glad to see that there are some people out there that would take such little pay for some huge responsibility.
