Morgan-Wixson Theatre (Santa Monica, CA)
A double dose of stage silliness is sure to leave audiences delirious with delight when Morgan-Wixson Theatre presents The Still Alarm and Black Comedy. Written by Algonquin Round table regular and Pulitzer winner George F. Kaufman, The Still Alarm bursts with the kind of inspired craziness that made a Kaufman a favorite of (and frequent collaborator with) the Marx Brothers. The insanity continues unabated in Black Comedy where a desperate sculptor “borrows” a few antiques from his absent neighbor in the hopes of impressing his fiancee’s father. But a blown fuse plunges everyone (but the audience!) into darkness just as the neighbor returns home. What follows is a hilarious race against time to set things right before the lights come back on. Paul Guay directs this double bill of the theater’s funniest one-acts.
