"Remembering the Palladium Days: Mambo is Back and It is Here to Stay"

Relive the clave-based rhythms and improvisational jazz techniques that made the New York’s Palladium a famous mid-century hub for Afro-Cuban music. As part of its summer concert series, the Museum of Latin American Art is bringing together a Palladium-performing legend — six-time Grammy Award-winning percussionist Johnny “Dandy” Rodriguez — for a show with one of Los Angeles’ own acclaimed big-band orchestras, Mambo Revue. The reunion marks the first time the unique sounds of Mambo Revue will be heard alongside Rodriguez’s, a name linked not only to the mambo era, but also to Latin music from New York and around the salsa world. Be there when these Afro-Cuban masters play original music plus songs by artists like Machito, Tito Puente and Tito Rodriguez.
