Even when singing the sunniest of songs, the melancholy rasp in Henry Wolfe’s voice makes you wonder whether he was born in Hooverville or hobo encampment. Ironically, he grew up the scion of silver screen royalty (Meryl Streep is his mom) but his music is neither soft or flashy or “Hollywood.” Best described as “intellectual folk pop,” his thoughtfully written and performed songs have been praised by Rolling Stone and recall the best stuff by Harry Nilsson, Neil Young and Arthur Russell. Now, as his latest album (2015’s Asilomar) continues to attract buzz, Wolfe plays the Grand Annex.
