A dermatologist launching a hair care line might seem random at first glance, but as you dig a little deeper, it actually makes sense. Your hair health is directly impacted by your scalp — an unhealthy scalp will lead to dry, brittle, thin hair. Dr. Dennis Gross, a dermatologist who has made his name in helping women battle acne and its ilk, wants to use his skin care expertise to aid women dealing with fine, thinning hair — hence the launch of his new Root Resilience line, which features a shampoo, conditioner, and treatment serum.

The line’s star ingredient is procyanidin-B2 protein complex, which is said to promote healthy hair growth. You’ll also find good-for-your-skin ingredients like retinol, alpha lipoic acid, copper peptides, collagen, and resveratrol in the lineup. According to the brand, the goal of Root Resilience is to create a “healthy, balanced environment for hair” — that means using skin-care savvy to eliminate issues such as inflammation, dryness, product build-up, and slow cell turnover.

The stand-out of the collection is the Anti-Aging Scalp Serum — which can be applied on a wet or dry scalp — and is a treatment product and styling aid in one. It creates instant fullness at the root of the hair, and stimulates and strengthens the hair follicle over time, resulting in a strong, bouncy, full mane. Our fine-haired tester had rave reviews for the serum, noting that it didn’t weigh her hair down or feel sticky, allowing her to layer her fave styling products on top without making her strands feel greasy.

While the full line won’t officially launch until August, QVC has the exclusive on the serum and just launched it on their site. If Dr. Gross can work the same magic with our hair that he has with our skin, then we’re definitely on board with his foray into follicle care.

What say you: Would you trust a dermatologist to tell you what’s best for your hair?
