A statement issued by the Pakistan Navy mentioned on Friday that it had prevented Indian Navy submarines from entering Pakistani territorial waters. It was mentioned that “the Indian Navy, in order to fulfil its nefarious designs, was deploying submarines. The Pakistan Navy, alert and using its extreme skill, prevented Indian submarines from entering Pakistani waters.”

The statement explained that “Pakistan Navy fleet units detected the presence of Indian submarines in the southern parts of Pakistani waters, mimiced their behaviour and restricted their activity.” It was highlighted that the Pakistan Navy successfully foiled an attempt by the Indian submarines of keeping their presence a secret because the navy had constantly pursued the submarines and pushed them back. The statement said that “this is proof of Pakistan Navy’s extremely skilled anti-submarine warfare units,” adding that “the Pakistan Navy is fully prepared to defend its borders and capable of responding to any aggression befittingly.”

The tensions between the two nuclear armed neighbors in South Asia soured to highest level in a decade after the Uri army base attack in September. Indian Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, blamed Pakistan and labeled it as a ‘terrorist state’ only a few hours after the incident and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stepped up a drive to isolate Pakistan diplomatically ever since the attack. The incident’s timing matched Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s address at the United Nations General Assembly regarding Indian human rights violations in held Kashmir.
