Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak made the announcement on Thursday while addressing the nation via radio and said that he himself will make sure that Lynas project does not continue if it is proved that it is harmful.

He said that there is no question that the project will be stopped if the evidence proves that it can affect the health and environment of the society. Speaking on the matter he said, “We will never compromise the safety of the people and the environment. Our people’s health and the environment are absolutely our top priority. We will not compromise on them. If there are serious evidences, I certainly will not allow Lynas to operate.”

At the same time, he clarified that he will not cater to any emotional or political propaganda regarding the project as it is of utmost significance that the correct decision is made and requested all other parties to also contest the case on grounds of solid evidence.

He encouraged all other parties who do not agree with the point of view of the government to represent their arguments and evidence before the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) especially formed by the government to cater to the rising issue of Lynas project.
