In a recent radio interview, Prime Minister Stephen Harper mentioned that his office purposefully “dismissed” chief of staff Nigel Wright in light of his questionable $90,000 cheque in favor of Senator Mike Duffy to cover the senator’s wrongfully acquired expenses. In contrary to this statement, Mr. Harper had previously alleged that Mr. Wright willingly resigned from office.

Mr. Harper was being interview by Jordi Morgan on News 95.7, when he alleged that his responsibility in the ongoing Senate expenses scandal is to take “appropriate action.” He elaborated his point of view, elucidating that “I think the responsibility whenever things go wrong is for us to take appropriate action. As you know, I had a chief of staff who made an inappropriate payment to Mr. Duffy, and he was dismissed.” Currently, the Senate is debating over whether or not to suspend three of its members without pay due to “gross negligence” while spending the taxpayers money. These senators namely include Sen. Mike Duffy, Sen. Patrick Brazeau and Sen. Pamela Wallin. All three suspicious senators are under investigation by the RCMP for questionable claims over housing or travel expenses, though no charges have been laid so far.

Brazeau, Duffy and Wallin were nominated to the Senate by Mr. Harper at the end of 2008. Now, he alleged that he wants the Senate to take “appropriate” action. He stated that “I think quite frankly all of us, both in the Senate and the rest of the government, we have been very very patient as these senators have been audited and all of the facts have been looked into.”
