Otherwise you can pay on site** Description of Workshop: Meet me (Mark) outside Whipper Snapper Gallery near Kensington Market. Together well go through the basics of tree identification, touching lightly on tree biology. Ill share what to look at in the winter for identifying deciduous trees; well review barks, buds, twigs and tree forms. Then well take a tree walk through the streets and surrounding parks observing specific characteristics of the trees we encounter. Once outside will also observe the differences between the various conifers and Ill provide some pointers to their identification as well. My knowledge is rooted in our regional bio-zone, meaning the trees well learn about are mostly from around here or have naturalized. I will not be covering exotic ornamental trees on the walk. Please dress warm! Well be outside for the majority of the workshop. Cost of workshop: $10 (**Please contact workshops@freshcityfarms.com for subsidized options if needed**) Length of workshop: 1.5 hours About Mark Sherman: Mark is an urban tree enthusiast, and generally knowledgeable green thumb. He’s a certified arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture. His scholastic training for Arboriculture is from Humber College, and for Environmental planning from Ryerson University. Mark has six years of urban forestry experience consulting, planting and planning for various not for profits including Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests (LEAF), GreenHere and NeighbourWoods. Presently Mark works in holistic tree care with the social-enterprise Karma Tree. Mark’s interest include; native trees, shrubs and wildflowers, medicinal and creative use of nature, wood fungi, urban forest planning policy and urban agriculture.
