There is a continuous pressure on the President Jacob Zuma to speed up his investigation regarding the allegations against Co-operative Governance Minister, Sicelo Shiceka by the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Youth Brigade.
Shiceka is alleged to have spent R355, 000 to visit a girlfriend in a Swiss jail, R640, 000 to stay in a luxury hotel in Cape Town, and more than R160, 000 on plane tickets for his family. Shiceka had been on a sick leave since February. He showed his keenness to return to his work at least twice. However, IFP Youth Brigade chairperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa has told that this failure to take corrective action against Mr Shiceka is totally intolerable and the President Zuma should speed up the investigation and show results.
On the contrary, the presidency has told on Wednesday that Zuma can not choose Shiceka’s future before the public protector pronounced on his alleged misuse of state funds. Zuma told the National Assembly on Tuesday, that he has investigated and got some replies from the minister. The Public prosecutor, Madonsela was called up by Parliament’s ANC-led ethics committee to investigate Shiceka for breaching the Executive Members’ Ethics Act. The probe is required to be concluded within 30 days time period.
However, Madonsela earlier on Thursday blamed Shiceka for delaying the investigation. She denied Shiceka’s complaints against her for dragging her feet on the investigation and that this prevented him from returning to work. Madonsela has told that the minister had been uncooperative to the point, where she had asked Zuma to intervene, as substantial amount of money is involved.
