The CES Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Mr. Francis Barsan was accompanied with a high government delegation to receive the offered land for the building of a South Sudan Sports Village.
“We have given the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports land so that they can build the Olympic Games Village. We see this as a development initiative for Jokokwea village and all South Sudanese will associate and socialise here,” Chief Tongun said.
“The Ministry will take the land according to their desired size so that the construction can fit their design. I want them to start work immediately to prove that the development that the citizens have been waiting for is on,” chief Tongun said.
Meanwhile the Executive Director of Jokokwea Boma Lokiliri Payam, Nemensio Logali Clement reiterated his people’s thirst for development to prove the notion of “taking the towns to the villages”.
In his statement to press, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr. Cirino Hiteng Ofuho thanked the Olubo community for their generosity. “The government will take full responsibility for the land offered. We have being looking for land to develop sporting facilities, we are very happy and we would like to thank the people of Lokiiri,” Hiteng added.
“We are looking for investors who will assist us to develop this piece of land. Our president will be visiting China and sports is one major issue that we will discuss with Chinese investors,” he said.
The Minster also urged other parts of South Sudan to provide land for the development of sports in the whole of the country.
