Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa announced the appointment of Sabah Immigration Director Datuk Mohammad Mentek as the director of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) effective April 1 on Friday.
He accredited the 48-year-old Mohammad for having vast experience in the fields of human resource development and management, finance and security to his profile.
“I believe his qualification, experience, knowledge and credibility will enable him to helm ESSCOM well and ensure public order and security in the special security zone,” he said.
Mohammad completed his Master of Science (Statistics) degree and Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) degree from the University of Minnesota, United States and joined the civil service as an administrative and diplomatic officer on Dec 1, 1992. He was appointed Sabah Immigration director on Aug 14, 2010.
On the other hand, the Malaysian forces have decided to permanently close Kampung Tanduo, the place where Sulu terrorists first settled down after entering Sabah on Feb 9. Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the dislocated villagers will be settled to a new area. The decision came after detailed analysis and examination of the area. The village is badly destroyed after the offensive launched on March 5.
“That is what has been decided so far, we will discuss the matter further, but as far as national security is concerned, it is only right that the residents of the village be relocated to a new place,” police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said.
