The candidate of the BC Liberal Party in Peace River South, Mike Bernier, declared to be in favour of a review on hydraulic fracturing. During an interview with a news channel on Wednesday, Bernier stated that “I’m all in favour of doing a review.” He further stated that “in fact, prior to the election I know there were MLAs – candidates with the Liberal party – themselves were saying should we be looking at doing a review.”

These comments were been made while the BC Liberal Party repeatedly condemned an intended plan of the New Democrats, in case their party forms government, to launch a scientific review into fracking, the process used to extract natural gas. As one of its goals, the NDP has demanded an “independent, expert-led public review” of the process. Whereas, the party was shaken earlier this week, when it’s candidate in Cariboo-Chilcotin, Charlie Wyse, announced to impose a two-year moratorium on fracking in order to make time for the review. However, later NDP leader Adrian Dix instantly revoked the comments, asserting that Wyse had misspoken and that the NDP will not impose a moratorium.

Speaking on the same matter to the reporters in Kamloops on Thursday, Premier Christy Clark stated that “I’ve never said we want a review on fracking. What I have said is we want to make sure that we’re always reviewing how well we’re doing things to make sure we’re doing it as well as we possibly can and find ways to do it better.”
