The unforeseen appointment of a Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) representative will not hamper the functions of MIC. President Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu said that the appointment of P. Waythamoorthy will not stop MIC from performing its duties.
“It is now up to (Hindraf chairman) Waythamoorthy to prove whether Hindraf would deliver on his words and promises to improve the Indian community’s economic position… If someone says that Waythamoorthy’s appointment is going to stop MIC representatives from delivering and working, then that person better commit suicide. Those are baseless and senseless rumors,” President Samy said.
Samy also congratulated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for announcing his new Cabinet in Putrajaya today. He said Waythamoorty’s appointment is similar to the appointment of other Indian representatives in the Cabinet and that he hopes that every leader will bring positive changes in the government’s administration.
“This government must be different. It has to be people-oriented, whereby ministers and deputy ministers must directly connect with the people, so the government and Barisan Nasional will be further strengthened,” he added.
MIC took four positions in the government, with party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel taking over as minister of natural resources and environment, having previously served as a minister in the prime minister’s department.
