The Calgary Police Service has charged a 16 year old in connection with a recent sexual assault.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, an eight-year-old girl was outside a home with her 10-year-old friend in the area of 61 Avenue and Silver Mead Crescent N.W., when they were approached by a male on a bike.

After talking to the girls, the male took the youngest child into some nearby bushes under the guise of playing a game. While in the bushes, the male allegedly sexually assaulted the girl, before he was interrupted by a neighbour. He then jumped on his bike and rode away.

The teen has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a child under 16, uttering threats, and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. Due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teen cannot be identified.
