Red, yellow and blue have been used by the artist as the main focus of these paintings. Flourishes of vibrant accent colours embellish the bravura energy within the works. Gwen is an expressionist painter. Using her preferred medium of acrylics, she presents simply her idea or feeling, in intense, clean colour, often straight from the source, using the inherent value of the colour in a Fauvist sensibility. Her best work comes from within and evolves as she listens and allows the painting to speak to her, suggesting what colour, or stroke, it needs next, in an intuitive, introspective manner. Gwen paints to express energy, soul and mood. – Process Gallery : New Works by Propraetor this exhibit, entitled crossing the rubicon, will take place in toronto atgallery 1313 in their process gallery. proprtorian works, new and old, ,i have decided to call this show crossing the rubicon not as a proclamation of civil war, as the historical act signified, but as a proclamation a throwing down of a gauntlet that proclaims this war i wage is an all or nothing situation. and in the words of GAIVS IVLIVS CSAR, who was the original crosser of the rubicon alea iacta est. [latin: the die is cast] Window Box Gallery : EPLE SLANG Sophia Bartholomew Gallery 1313s window box is west-facing and receives direct sunlight. Taking the gallerys particular physical conditions as a starting point, EPLE SLANG will transform the gallery into a solar dehydrator for the duration of the exhibition. While video and new media are popularly thought of as durational mediums, this work explores how static physical materials might also be experienced as something durational moving and changing over time. The window box transgresses the distinction between interior and exterior space, complicating understandings of self and of city it offers us that possibility, it asks us that question. sophia bartholomew is an artist currently based out of Fredericton, New Brunswick.
