Tushar Hiranandani who has co-incidentally also written the prequel Masti, is surely high on the success of the film but he believes that director Indra Kumar deserves all the appreciation since he was the one who had more faith in the film than anyone else. "It's Indra Kumar's conviction that is the true success behind Grand Masti," says the story and screenplay writer of this recent surprise hit.

However, a film which had a lot of what Indian audience term as 'pervert' content entertained one and all. But contrary to what a layman might feel, Tushar believes that the comedy element is the secret behind the success of the film. "Grand Masti doesn't go as a sleazy film. It's really funny and that's why it did so well. We did not make it vulgar. There was no intention to hurt anyone's sentiments or degrading anyone. My wife and my mother loved the film and I am sure a lot of other women loved the film too. It was all in fun and the numbers show it all."
But, despite that, the film did receive threats and protests from certain areas of the country for its 'obscene content'. But Tushar, who did not pay any heed to these controversies then, had faith in his content as their sole intention was to make Grand Masti one of its kind. "We had seen Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum. We wanted to go beyond that. Masti was the first film in this kind of genre. So, we knew we had to go to a certain level to make it funny. Though we had to cut down on a lot to get our film certified at the Censor Board, we knew we had to make a film that will end it in a way that no one can surpass it. So that was the whole intention behind making the film."

Adding one more success story to the Milap Zaveri- Tushar Hiranandani jodi is Grand Masti! Their association goes back a long way and Tushar is more than happy with their yet another triumphant venture. "Milap had given up writing and team up together after a long time for Grand Masti. And now I am doing a couple of films with him again."

Considering that Grand Masti turned out to be one of the few sequels that surpassed expectations, Masti 3 rumours seems to be doing the rounds. Though Tushar hasn't denied making a third installment, he believes that it is difficult to keep up the expectations. "We were thinking of Masti 3 but it is going to be difficult to write it because normal audience and critics should be able to digest it. Since Grand Masti already has seen an uproar, now, we need to come up with a better plot and we need to be really careful while doing it. We do not want to go wrong."

This hasn't been Tushar's first attempt at comedy. In fact, he has tasted quite a bit of success in this genre with Housefull 2, Double Dhamaal and others but now breaking away from his stereotypical image, the writer wants to experiment with other genres like thriller and romance. "I am writing Mohit Suri's The Villain which is a romantic-thriller and also, it is one of my best works. Main Tera Hero is more of a romantic film than a comedy. I am writing ABCD 2 too. I am writing a film for Nishikant Kamat and one for Sanjay Gupta which has a genre of its own. I am also doing a slice-of-life film with Indra Kumar for Akshay Kumar's Production. I am also writing a film about funny ghosts for Ken Ghosh. So, I just want to keep trying something new as it gives a writer a chance to think some more."

While it's not just a decision that he has taken as a writer, it is also because his wife and mother have been inspiring him to pursue writing for different kinds of films. "My wife has made me more mature, she is the one who has given me a different direction. You can call it inspiration but I guess because of her I always push my envelope. And my mother… her blessings are always with me," he says.
